Subacute-Monocytic Leukemia: a case report


Abstract
K. S. Min, a male banker, aged 66 years, sought medical advice because of loss of appetite, weakness, general malaise and dyspnea of ¢¥ about 12 months duration with insidious onset and increasing severity in the course of the antecedent about 2 months.
On May, 14, 1959 he admitted to the hospital and examined his periferal blood and found: H.b. 8.5gm, W.B.C. 25, with Seg. Neutro. 7%, Stab. Neutro. 4%, Lymphocytes 19%, Monocytes 67%, Monoblast 3%.
From this picture suggested of a diagnosis of monocytic leukemia. Platelets count and R.B.C. were 216,000 and 2,680,000 on admission. On May, 1959 smears of sternal marrow aspirate revealed Monoblast 10%, Promonocyte 70%, Monocyte 10%, and 10% of the rest.
Subsequently his white cell count steadily increased and ranging from 38, 500 to 4, 000. His condition gradually and progressly weakend E and be died on June, 24, 1959, i.e., 44days from the known of onset.
On admission livar was palpable 1 F.B. below the right costal margin, soft and non-tender but at no time were spleen or lympbnodes palpable. However, uiticaria-like petechea became rapidly and wide-spread and numerous just one day prior to expired.
The 6-Mercaptopyrine and Delta-Cortone seemed to be no favorable effect to him.
